However, in a report today (April 30) by bdnews24.com, Ratul has been revealed to have passed away due to drowning after he had been bathing in a pond near his home alone.

According to the Safiul Alam who is the chief of the local police station, Ratul drowned while bathing alone in a pond near his house at Monohargonj in Cumilla district on Saturday afternoon.

He added police were thoroughly investigating the matter.

Ratul’s father Faruk Mia said that the boy was mentally challenged and did not know how to swim and that Ratul who is the eldest of three brothers, was bathing alone because everyone else was busy harvesting paddy in the field.

“How can I live on after this?”, said Faruk to reporters.

Ratul was buried without a post-mortem examination following permission from the local authorities at the request of the family, said Ashikur Rahman Howladar, chairman of the local union council.

We would like to offer Ratul’s family our condolences.
