M’sian Mum Drives From Perlis to Penang After Hospital Discharge Just to Surprise Special Needs Son at School
A Malaysian single mother touched hearts across social media after sharing her emotional journey of driving long distance straight after being discharged from the hospital just to surprise her special needs son at school.
Writing on Threads, user @jastinamohdjunus shared a moving story alongside photos of her visiting her non-verbal son, Ayin, who is preparing to sit for his SPM examinations.

“After being discharged from hospital and finally feeling strong enough to drive long distances again, I went to visit my second child. This child of mine is destined for heaven. Without a voice, without a sound. A ticket to heaven for me too.
“I decided to surprise my son by visiting him at school. He was walking past my car when he seemed to recognise it. I got out and waved at him, and he immediately burst into tears and ran towards me, hugging me tightly as he cried. I held back my tears because I had always promised myself that I would never cry in front of my children,” her post read.
A tearful reunion after two months apart
Having been separated from her second child for nearly two months due to health reasons, the mother braved a long drive from Perlis to Penang, noting that her longing to see him made the lengthy journey feel like nothing.
To celebrate their reunion and encourage him ahead of his SPM exams, she brought along a custom cake with motivational words, his favorite sushi, and fried chicken so they could share a meal together.
“I bought him a cake and wrote brief words of encouragement. Bought his favorite sushi and KFC. We cut the cake and ate KFC and sushi together. He ate with a good appetite,” she added.

“They are a blessing from heaven”
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, the user shared heartfelt advice for single mothers and parents navigating the rewarding yet challenging path of raising children with special needs.
She emphasised the importance of staying strong, seeking education, and equipping children with essential life skills for the future:
“Don’t give up because they only have us since we wanted them to be born into this world. We are responsible and accountable to raise them, no matter if we have to raise our child alone or together with the spouse or anyone,
“Please occupy yourself with the knowledge of the disabilities, and learn how to handle them since they are sensitive and need some extra care. Attend the classes or any training, courses if necessary,” she added.
She encouraged parents who may struggle to care for children with special needs to seek help from qualified professionals rather than keeping their children at home.
She stressed the importance of teaching them basic routines and life skills so they can eventually live independently and know how to care for themselves when their parents are no longer around.
