Malaysians have been envious of folks in the Klang Valley for a long time because they get to visit not one, but two IKEAs! However, that’s now a thing of the past because IKEA Tebrau in Johor Bahru has finally opened its doors on Wednesday (15 November)!

It has created quite a buzz among the locals as hundreds have been queuing up as early as 7am before the doors opened at 10am. By then, it was reported that roughly 4,000 Swedish furniture fans were waiting in line! Dayum these guys weren’t playin’ around!

So we’ve compiled a list of interesting facts about this amazing new IKEA branch that you should know about.

1. This is the biggest IKEA in Southeast Asia

As you’d have probably read from the title of this article, IKEA has decided to make this new store bigger than all the other ones in Southeast Asia!

Before this, IKEA Cheras was the biggest outlet in Malaysia measuring 42,000 square-metres of shopping space. Now, it’s been dethroned by IKEA Tebrau, which sits on a massive 46,700 square-metre plot of land, making it the largest IKEA outlet in the whole of Southeast Asia.

 

2. It has 54 Swedish-inspired showrooms for public viewing

Showrooms with minimalist interior decorations are one the the reasons Malaysians flock to IKEA, and at this new outlet, you can easily spend half a day there browsing from showroom to showroom, because there are a whopping 54 of them!

 

3. The IKEA restaurant can accommodate 750 people

After a long day of checking out furniture, we need to refuel our bodies with some nutrients, and there’s nowhere better to do this than at the IKEA restaurant. I mean, those meatballs and chicken wings are to die for!

The best thing about this new outlet is that it can accommodate at least 750 people! Hopefully this means lesser queues too! 

 

4. You can park your vehicle at one of the 1,771 parking bays available

Worry about finding parking space no more!

 

5. There’s free shuttle bus services available for the public

From JB Sentral and Larkin, you can easily board the free bus to IKEA Tebrau. The bus starts operating at 9am daily with an interval of two to three hours between each bus.

The last bus from IKEA Tebrau leaves at 10pm from Sunday to Thursday, but this timing is extended to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Don’t miss your last bus guys!
