When we were still students and still unaware of the commitments, we dreamt of A LOT of things. A car, a house, a partner, and a stable income all before the age of 26. Everything turns out to be a fairy tale after we start working and life hits us hard.

It’s not wrong to dream big but it’s like digging your own grave to spend beyond your means. In a viral TikTok post by @nfkyraaaa_ recently, a car sales advisor shared a conversation with a 19-year-old man who initially wanted a Proton X70, but then changed his mind to a Proton X50.

Well, the young man could’ve gotten what he wanted, only if he made more. He only makes RM1,100 a month, which would’ve cost him more than his monthly salary to pay for the loan for a X70.

The sales advisor, Kyra told the young man about the commitment and suggested the man another car that was suited to his budget.

“The monthly loan for X70 is more than Rm1,200. Do you want to try another car?”

“Other cars? No thanks”

According to Kyra, she suggested Perodua Axia or Proton Saga, to which the man, who did not even have a driver’s license showed NO interest. He also did not disclose his job which earned him a mere RM1,100 a month, and he was opting for a full loan without a downpayment.

In her post, Kyra also said that many youths, particularly those aged between 17 to 21 are after fancy cars and not something that fits their budgets.

“These kids are mostly looking for a Civic, Vios, or X50. This generation is such a challenge.”

To the graduates out there who are fresh out of your college, it’s good that you aim big and far. When it comes to car, keep in mind that it’s not only about the monthly installment but also the hidden fees – maintenance, gas, and repair.
