This inspiring woman’s story goes to show that you can still make a change no matter what your age is!

According to The Star, 95-year-old Liang Mee Lun loves to make paper flowers and she managed to raise RM53,000 for a good cause by doing what she loves.

Liang’s daughter put 10 bouquets of her creations up for sale to help the Association of Resource and Education for Autistic Children (REACh) in Bukit Gelugor.

A number of generous donors quickly bought the bouquets when the 95-year-old’s daughter promoted the sale on social media after hearing about REACh’s need for funds.

“I learnt to make paper flowers when I was 15 years old while studying at the Nanyang Girls’ High School in Singapore.”

“Everybody had to do it. It was part of our extra curriculum,” said Liang.

She usually makes paper flowers to pass time whenever she visits her 11 children who reside in Penang, Johor, Melaka, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

She shared with the daily that each paper flower takes about 30 minutes to create.

Liang’s daughter revealed that her mother only started making the paper flowers 25 years ago after her husband passed away.

“She was busy raising us, which left her with no time at all for such a hobby. These days, she spends several hours a day making paper flowers. She is extremely neat and keeps all her craft material in a box under the table.”

“It’s quite calming to see her making the flowers.”

The 95-year-old also makes flowers for special occasions. Her daughter shared that she made 600 roses as door gifts for guests on her 91st birthday.

She also made 99 bouquets for guests at her grandson’s wedding.

Now, thanks to her craft, she was able to help the centre for autistic children in their efforts to continue helping kids with special needs. What an inspiring woman!
