Although, former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s conviction yesterday was met with celebrations, it appears that not everyone is happy with the circumstances that he went to prison in.

Najib was showcased leaving his home to make his way to the Federal Court along with Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) escorts, which made netizens question why he is still allowed the privilege of traffic escorts.

Apart from having PDRM escorts, there were also rumours that the former Prime Minister would receive special treatment at Kajang prison.

However, this has been quickly dismissed by the Prisons Department. In a Facebook post, the department urged the public to “stop the spread of fake information.”

Accompanying the post was a picture of a clean, spacious, nicely equipped room with IKEA-like shelves and a table.

The Prisons Department also clarified that there will be no such special treatment accorded to Najib, stressing that all prisoners will be treated the same.

Allegations on preferential treatment for “well-connected” prisoners are not new as there had been reports of such treatment being given to some inmates in the past.

What do you think of this?
