If you have seen any Singaporean dramas before, you would know that the ah long debt collectors and their cronies have a few tactics that they use alternately when trying to intimidate their debtors.

These tactics include pouring red paint on the front door of their debtors’ houses, visiting their debtors’ families to cause a commotion and purposely damaging goods such as their debtors’ cars and shops (if they are business owners).

These things may seem dramatised, as they commonly appear in dramas. Unfortunately, they also happen in real life, as displayed by this viral video on social media.

Entering and setting fire

The CCTV footage shows the suspect entering the restaurant, aggressively pouring oil onto the floor near the counter, and then setting it on fire.

Terrified for their lives, the 7 patrons occupying the shop scrambled outside.

One man, who seemed to be the shop owner, lingered outside the shop as the suspect finally lit a fire, throwing it on the floor. The counter went up in flames.

Outside, the man tried to stop the suspect, who attempted to slam a chair onto the assaulter.

According to the official press release by the police, the man not only set fire to the counter of a restaurant, but also damaged a car with a sickle.

Rompin District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Mohd. Azahari Mukhtar said the 35-year-old suspect was arrested at a house in Perumahan Banjir at about 5pm last Friday.

“The suspect has been remanded until July 20, and the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for property treason,” he said.

He also added that the “suspect who is suffering from Bipolar Disorder is being investigated under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 because he tested positive for drugs.”
