Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, the operator of the Rapid KL public rail services, today announced that it has introduced a new mode of payment via debit or credit cards at all of its rail stations beginning yesterday (30 April).

In a statement, Rapid Rail said that those using the LRT, MRT, Monorail and BRT services are now given the flexibility to use their debit or credit cards for purchasing tokens, reloading Touch ‘n Go cards and even subscribing to the My50 and MyCity passes.

The new payment method is only at customer service counters, not at the gantry

For reference, customer service counters at all Rapid Rail stations previously only accepted payment via cash or QR code, which makes it an inconvenience for commuters, especially foreign tourists to purchase tokens or reload their Touch ‘n Go cards.

Furthermore, this doesn’t mean that you can use your debit or credit card directly at the gantry, as the Open Payment system at Rapid Rail stations is still under development.

Previously, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook revealed in Parliament that 50% of the gantries will implement the Open Payment system in February 2025.

Safer and more efficient

Instead, this new payment method is only applicable to the customer service counters and concession card registration counters at all Rapid Rail stations.

Do note that concession card registration counters are only available at the Pasar Seni Hub and Conlay MRT station.

Rapid Rail asserted that this new payment method is meant to provide convenience and enhance the efficiency of the purchasing process for users.

The statement added that users no longer need to worry about carrying cash but just use their debit or credit cards which is safer and more efficient.
