A 28-year-old man was arrested at the Nibong Tebal roadblock recently after he was rude to the police and refused to cooperate with them. A video of him throwing abusive words at a police officer went viral on social media recently although the incident took place on 18 February.

According to Seberang Perai Selatan District Police Chief, Superintendent Lee Chong Chern, police officers from the Nibong Tebal Police Station had arrested the Mitsubishi Lancer driver, who was trying to travel interstate from Butterworth (Seberang Perai Utara district) Penang to Bagan Serai, Perak at about 5pm.

He said that after inspecting the driver, the man was found to not have permission to travel interstate.

Kosmo reported that when the driver was asked to show his identity card and driver’s licence, he threw the cards towards the police officer on duty.

As a result, the police officers detained him for being rude, for refusing to cooperate and for preventing the police from carrying out their duties at the roadblock.

“During the arrest process, he said an abusive word to the police and was arrested after that,” Superintendent Lee Chong Chern said.

Supt Lee added that further investigation found that the man has been receiving treatment for mental illness at Taiping Hospital, Perak until now.

Meanwhile, the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Regulation 16 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases 2021 Regulations.
