They say love makes the world go round and having someone who really loves you is a blessing to have! A blind man, known as Yom Homhuan, has been supporting his sick wife by selling bamboo sticky rice all alone for years.

According to Matichon, the 67-year-old would order bamboo sticky rice from the people in his village every Friday to replenish his stock. He sells the food in a crate on his bicycle and often follows a truck driver who would drop him off outside Khao Ta Krao Temple in Phetchaburi Province, where he sets up shop to catch the weekend crowd.

He would try to draw attention to his wares by using a megaphone and although he is blind, he says that he needs to earn money to support his 98-year-old wife. They do not have children and his wife has diabetes and high blood pressure, so he has to take care of her.

Yom explains that his blindness was the result of an accident when he was young, where he followed his mother to the fields and an ox had kicked him. He said that he and his wife were a poor couple but tried hard to make ends meet as he needed to pay for his wife’s medical expenses.

Although the old man is very poor, he has a kind and generous heart. If he has leftovers when the day has ended, he would feed the monkeys who live nearby the temple. He would also give the sticky rice out to people if there were any public events in the village too.

The old man is usually at the temple’s parking lot, near the Luang Po Wat Ta Krao statue and only sells there on the weekend.

We hope that Yom and his wife will live happily together! If you’re nearby the area, do drop by and support the kind old man!
