Labor Day 2024 was a good day for all civil servants not just for the short break but also for the good news they received from PM Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Effective December this year, Malaysian civil servants can expect to see a 13% increment in their pay slip, and PMX promised that the minimum wage for civil servants will exceed RM2,000. Yes, the starting salary won’t stay at RM1,800 anymore.

While the announcement was meant for all civil servants, Anwar clarified that not ALL civil servants deserve the increment. In his FB post, PMX said that only civil servants who perform well at work deserve to receive increased pay.

“I’d like to remind that any civil servants who DON’T show good performance, who are lazy and are often late to work don’t deserve the increment.”

Despite the good news for those in the government sector, PMX also has a reminder for employers in the private sector. To him, those hardworking, responsible employees in the private sector who are committed to their jobs deserve a raise too.

To the bosses in the private sector who are making extra profit, this is something for your (serious) consideration.

“Any private sectors that make extra profit, I urge you to reward your employees with higher pay. Treat everyone equally at work.”

PMX also reminded Malaysians that it is everyone’s responsibility to raise their work quality and improve their service to the people and country.

Earlier, PMX promised Malaysians that the government would do its best to find ways to make increment for civil servants possible. This time, PMX kept his promise regarding the welfare of the civil servants.

To all the civil servants who serve the people and are committed to their jobs, congratulations on the increment! As for the employers in the private sectors, what do you think of rewarding your employees with higher pay?
