Netflix, especially during MCO, is a great way of passing time for us. However, with growing demand, some ‘criminals’ have begun to turn at Netflix as a way to make money.

Hackers selling your account for RM10 to strangers

There’s been an underground market for Netflix passes in Malaysia. Sellers offer Netflix accounts for as low as RM10 and worst of all, these accounts belong to unsuspecting users who have been hacked. It could be you, me, or anyone really!

Here’s how to check if you’ve been hacked

  1. Go to www.netflix.com/YourAccount
  2. Click ‘Recent streaming device activity’
  3. Check for odd log ins!

Net

It’s really scary to think a complete stranger has access over your account.

What to do if your Netflix account is hacked

  1. If you spot questionable activity, change your passwords to disconnect from all devices.
  2. A report can also be made to Netflix via their customer service available here.

Additionally, Netflix rolled out a lock pin feature to ensure strangers can’t get into your account. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Go to ‘account’ or click here.
  2. Go to ‘profiles & parental control’
  3. Click on the drop down arrow for the profile you want to lock

Pro

4. Find ‘profile lock’ and click on ‘change’

5. Create a 4-digit pin number

And you’re done!

Many Malaysians have fallen victim to this

For instance, a social media user checked her account and found out that it’s being used in Sarawak and Johor when she resides in KL.

Others tried and successfully learnt to get rid of these hackers.

Beware of dangerous consequences

If you think this is harmless, think again.

Hackers provide these strangers with access to your account and they can easily change your password without you knowing. This will then cause you to get locked out of your very own account! So, make sure to frequently change your password to avoid this.

A Netflix subscription is priced at only RM17 to RM55 per month for a premium account

Net

A premium account lets you have up to 4 users too which if you’re sharing with friends or family, that’s only RM13.75 a month! Plus, it’s not illegal nor hacking an innocent person’s account!

We urge members of the public to stop the falling for cheap and questionable means of getting Netflix because there will not be any supply without demand.
