Following the untimely death of 24-year-old Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, the fireman who was gravely injured during the fracas at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple, 392 police officers have been deployed to the temple and the One City business complex in USJ 25 this morning (18th December).

Three checkpoints have also been set up around the vicinity to control traffic. Police officers were quickly deployed to the areas at around midnight, a few hours after the fireman’s death was announced.

Police have also urged Malaysians to remain calm and refrain from making unnecessary comments on social media.

Muhammad Adib passed away yesterday (17th December) at 9.41pm after sustaining a broken rib and a punctured lung from the Seafield temple riot on 27th November last month. He was quickly rushed to the Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) soon after being injured before he was transferred to the National Heart Institute (IJN) on 28th November.

He initially showed signs of improvement, responding to simple verbal instructions. However, he began to suffer progressive deterioration of his lung and kidney function on the 16th of December. Muhammad Adib was supposed to get married this month.

The fireman’s death has now been reclassified by the authorities as murder.

At around 10.30am this morning, Muhammad Adib’s remains have already been flown to Kedah. An estimated crowd of 700 people surrounded the area where the Fire and Rescue Department’s helicopter landed in the fireman’s home state. According to the Malay Mail, his remains have already arrived at his family home in Kampung Temengau at about 11.30am and his funeral is expected to take place later today at Masjid As-saadah Kampung Temengau.

Our condolences go out to Muhammad Adib’s family and loved ones. We also hope Malaysians heed the police’s message and remain calm during this difficult time.
