Multiple schools have come under fire in recent months for the methods of ‘discipline’ employed by their teachers. Once, an Uztaz broke a student’s leg because he was taking too long to bring back the Quran.

About 7 months ago, there was also the whole uproar over a report revealing that female students have been subjected to period spot checks for years.

Recently, a video showing teachers destroying make-up products belonging to female students has been shared on the Facebook page INFO BERITA SEMASA.

The incident allegedly took place in a religious boarding school in Indonesia and saw a few teachers smashing skincare and make-up products such as lipsticks and lip balms with a hammer.

We regularly hear about how smartphones are not allowed in these boarding schools, but apparently, skincare and make-up products are not allowed too.

The idea is that items such as smartphones and make-up would become too much of a distraction to students who should be focusing on their studies.

It is understood that the teachers confiscated the make-up products before gathering and smashing them in front of the students as a lesson.

Netizens are divided

In the comments section, netizens express their opposing views.

Some thought that the method of discipline was too harsh, while others justified the action by saying that that is how religious schools are.

“This is not how we should educate.”

The lip balm is fine. I used to have issues with my dry lips during my schooling days. I had to use a lip balm.”

Against 2

Here are some comments from those who supported the teachers’ actions.

“Every school has its own set of rules and regulations. If you cannot accept those rules and regulations, don’t put your children in that school.”

Support 1

“Religious schools do not just teach religion but also emphasize moral development. Honestly, it’s just a matter of fact that all religious teachers are strict.”

That looks a little too harsh, don’t you think so?
