One Degree, Over 20 Paths: Why M’sians Should Opt for an American Degree

When we’re 18, how many of us truly knew what we wanted our dream careers to be? And if we had the chance and space to explore what we actually love, wouldn’t we take it? Through Sunway University’s exclusive partnership with Arizona State University (ASU), you can do just that.

Sunway University’s School of American Education gives you the flexibility to explore various world-class U.S. degree programmes and switch them to your liking with America’s #1 most innovative university.

This collaboration lets you experience authentic American education right here in Malaysia, not to mention opportunities for global exposure and career advancement.

Here’s how you can explore your options before committing to a major with Sunway University and ASU:

1. Switch majors as you see fit

With ASU’s American Degree Program (ADP), you’ll have the flexibility to switch between five majors in the programme, including:

• Bachelor in Digital Communication (Advertising) with Honors
• Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (Honors)
• Bachelor of Science (Honors) Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence)
• Bachelor in Digital Media Design with Honors
• Bachelor of Arts (Honors) Global Management

With over 20 pathways to ASU, not only can you freely discover your strengths and passions without fully committing to a major, but you can also explore different interests as you develop yourself as an avid learner. Talk about student satisfaction.

No matter which you choose, you’ll have access to ASU masterclasses and certifications that arm you with industry-relevant knowledge and skills, driving up your value in the global job market.

2. Mix it up with tech and creative

ASU’s syllabus is proof that the US education system is one of the most flexible in the world, as you can explore unlimited options on courses for an all-around learning experience. From subjects like AI Foundation and Application to Public Speaking and Presentation Skills and Introduction to Environmental Studies, you can explore both your technical and creative sides in one degree structure, which adopts the US liberal arts approach of inclusiveness, industry-relevance and flexibility

Plus, expect plenty of varied out-of-class extracurriculars in subjects like Macroeconomics and Introduction to Human Communication for a more hands-on learning experience, so you can apply what you learnt in real life and see it in action, such as running projects and charity programs as part of their assignments, volunteering in cultural performances, or participating in international conferences.

3. Liberal Arts advantage for a more diverse portfolio

To spice up your qualifications even further, Sunway University’s School of American Education encourages students to personalise their academic journey by exploring courses beyond their major with Liberal Arts.

Through carefully curated elective pathways, students can explore secondary areas of interest like psychology, business, communication, data studies, or social sciences while remaining focused on their chosen major. This interdisciplinary approach allows students to build a versatile skill set, discover new passions, and stay adaptable in a global job market that’s constantly evolving.

Instead of training for a single field, students will graduate with the intellectual agility, critical thinking skills, and global perspective that American liberal arts education is known for, preparing them for multiple career pathways and lifelong learning.

4. No stress about your final job yet

The best part of pursuing an American degree at Sunway University: You don’t need to know what career you end up pursuing when you sign up for this programme. Aside from a flexible US education system, every student is assigned an academic advisor who will provide academic guidance and support. Their student-lecturer engagement extends over and beyond the classroom, with one in four lecturers consistently receiving “Excellent Teaching” awards.

5. Start local, then transfer later or finish locally

See the world with Sunway University’s American Degree Program, which allows you to seamlessly transfer up to 90 credits and transition smoothly into prestigious U.S. and Canadian institutions. With over 20 diverse pathways and a world-class education, 75% of students successfully entered Tier 1 universities like Cornell, New York University, and John Hopkins.

You won’t be alone in this journey either. You’ll have the support of a team of dedicated transfer support staff conducting workshops and “Freshman Seminars” to help you excel in a new academic environment. From identifying “best-fit” colleges to navigating complex application processes, you can easily navigate the journey with continuous support and find your ideal academic home. Beyond the initial transfer, you can also pursue alumni internship opportunities to jumpstart your career.

Or if you choose to finish your studies locally, you can still complete your four-year degree at Sunway University and earn both a Sunway University degree and an ASU degree once you fulfil both requirements. That way, you can still receive a prestigious American qualification at a fraction of the cost while keeping the full experience with courses taught by both Sunway and ASU professors.
