A dispute believed to have been triggered by a slap escalated into a large-scale fight involving a group of students in front of a school in Bandar Selesa Jaya, Skudai, drawing widespread attention on social media yesterday.

Following the incident, police acted swiftly, arresting 15 individuals within 12 hours of receiving a report. Iskandar Puteri District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan said those detained included one adult woman, one female student, and 13 male students, aged between 12 and 37.

“All suspects were arrested in an operation carried out around Nusa Bestari and Iskandar Puteri on the same day,” he said in a statement today.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the altercation was sparked by a slap, which led to dissatisfaction and eventually escalated into a group fight. Kumarasan added that the two women have been remanded for three days, from 11 to 13 April, while the 13 male students have been remanded for four days, until April 14, to assist in investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

Police stressed that they will not compromise on any form of criminal behaviour and urged the public not to speculate, as investigations are still ongoing.

Members of the public with information related to the incident are encouraged to come forward and assist by contacting the nearest police station.
