A Malaysian father meant well for his child but unfortunately set the wrong example.

The man, who works as a promoter, allegedly stole nine toys worth more than RM1,500 from the shop where he was employed so his son could play with them. The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) arrested the man, who is suspected of stealing superhero toys from a well-known children’s toy store at a shopping mall in Bangsar, on Saturday (11 April).

The suspect pretended to arrange the merchandise

Brickfields District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said the arrest was made following a report lodged by a 28-year-old sales manager of the store after the toys were discovered missing, resulting in losses amounting to RM1,529.10.

The missing items were detected during a routine stock check conducted at around 6 PM on Wednesday (8 April).

ā€œBased on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the store, the 40-year-old suspect, who works as a promoter for another company, was seen taking the toys between approximately 6:45 PM and 7:50 PM on Tuesday (7 April),ā€ he said in a statement to Harian Metro.

According to Hoo, the suspect had entered the store under the pretext of arranging merchandise. During that time, he allegedly took several toys and placed them in a sling bag he was carrying.

Police also managed to recover the stolen toys. Authorities are expected to apply for a remand order as investigations continue under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which covers theft in a building.

The case remains under investigation.
