A temple has issued a formal statement distancing itself from controversial remarks made by a self-proclaimed “Taizi (Prince Deity) medium” following a fatal incident involving a collapsed beam that claimed the life of a 17-year-old, Kerk Joo Jie.

In a widely circulated video, the medium claimed he sensed a “faint and sorrowful energy field” at the scene and described the incident as a form of “calamity caused by overlapping time and space.” He suggested the victim had encountered a critical period in her destiny, compounded by unstable environmental energy and feng shui factors.

He also claimed to have “resolved a knot” in the girl’s destiny, allowing her to move on peacefully to her next life.

However, the temple strongly refuted any association with such claims

In its official statement, the temple expressed its deepest condolences and sincere apologies to the victim’s family, describing the incident as a tragic and unforeseen circumstance that has caused immense grief. The temple’s management confirmed that it is fully cooperating with the relevant authorities in the investigation into the cause of the beam collapse and is committed to reviewing and strengthening safety measures on its premises to prevent future incidents.

The temple also issued a firm clarification regarding the medium’s remarks, emphasising that they were purely personal opinions and do not represent the temple’s views or position in any way.

“We deeply regret any confusion and misunderstanding caused by these inappropriate statements,” the statement read.

According to the statement, the medium also falsely claimed that the family’s compensation was secured through his assistance, and that the donations raised by the temple were obtained with his facilitation. The temple’s management has strongly denied these allegations.

“The assistance and donations provided by the temple were acts of goodwill and care, offered voluntarily and not initiated or led by any individual.”

Reaffirming its longstanding principles of serving the community and respecting both faith and humanity, the temple pledged to enhance its safety management practices and continue providing support and assistance to the bereaved family during this difficult time.

The statement concluded with a call for the public to remain rational and refrain from spreading unverified claims, emphasising the importance of responsible communication in preserving social harmony.
