Rumours have been cirulating that one of the popular milk tea chains, Tealive, is not Halal-certified. The allegation circulated via WhatsApp and was forwarded many times, claiming that the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) has labelled Tealive as non-Halal.
The text alleged that all coffee, chocolate, and vanilla beverages from Tealive are Haram for Muslim consumption, due to pork content, specifically “Mono- and Diglycerides of Animal Origin.”

Furthermore, the text also claimed that some of Tealive’s drinks contain cherries that were dipped in alcohol, and its Tiramisu drink also contains rum. The message was falsely attributed to Dr Zahazan Mohamad.
JAKIM clarifies that Tealive has ALWAYS been Halal-certified
In an official statement released by Tealive yesterday (29 December), Ustaz Datuk Dr Zahazan Mohamad himself broke the silence and clarified that he never authored or delivered that message. More importantly, Tealive has been Halal-certified by JAKIM since its formation.

“I have never said the products are Haram. The statement is false and malicious.”
In the statement, Dr Zahazan also said that he had lodged a police report for the matter, adding that there are agencies responsible for halal and haram matters.
A similar rumour also circulated on social media in 2019 with the same screenshot, in which JAKIM also responded to clear the air.

Dr Zahazan has urged the public to stop spreading false information and cease these irresponsible acts.
