The grieving father of a 17-year-old girl, tragically killed in an accident at a temple, recalled witnessing his daughter’s hand tremble just seconds before she passed away.

The man, Guo Chuiyi (transliteration), recounted how he rushed to her side immediately after a structural beam fell on his daughter, Guo Yujie (transliteration), while she was helping clean the temple. He held her in his arms as she briefly opened her eyes to look at him before taking her final breath.

“We haven’t done anything. Why didn’t the gods protect us?”

The incident occurred around 8 PM on Tuesday (7 April) while his daughter was changing a lamp wick. He explained that he had traditionally visited the temple every night with his father to clean the premises and maintain the lamps.

However, after his father suffered a stroke several years ago, the entire family began attending together to assist with the chores.

Speaking to the media, Guo described his daughter as both a brilliant student and a deeply filial child.

“Our family has not done anything wrong. We helped out at the temple every night; why didn’t the gods protect her?”

The beam was installed four years ago

Guo is now seeking an explanation from the temple management, noting that while he does not necessarily blame them, as they may not have been aware of any defects, there needs to be an investigation into the quality and structural integrity of the installation.

“I checked the beam myself, and it seemed off to me. But I am not blaming the temple, because they wouldn’t have known if there were abnormalities in the beams.”

The daughter’s funeral is scheduled for Friday (10 April). Following the service, she will be cremated at the Sepang Municipal Council Crematorium.
