A man went on a violent rampage after being asked to settle an unpaid food bill at a restaurant in Telok Mengkuang, Kuala Langat, on Tuesday (7 April).

According to Kuala Langat District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi, the police received a report regarding the incident at 3:30 PM.

Acting swiftly, a team of officers was dispatched to the scene, where they encountered a local man in his 30s behaving aggressively while wielding a meat cleaver and a rattan stick.

Property and vehicles damaged

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect caused extensive damage inside a seafood restaurant located along Jalan Pandan 2, Telok Mengkuang. In addition to destroying property on the premises, he vandalised three vehicles belonging to members of the public parked nearby.

The incident is believed to have been triggered by the suspect’s dissatisfaction after a restaurant worker asked him to repay a long-standing food debt. Enraged by the request, the man reportedly lashed out, escalating the situation into a dangerous confrontation.

During the chaos, the suspect allegedly swung his weapons at responding police officers and targeted a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), posing a serious threat to both law enforcement personnel and civilians in the vicinity.

Arrest and criminal background

Police brought the situation under control and successfully apprehended the suspect, who is currently unemployed. He was subsequently taken to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang for a medical evaluation.

Further background checks revealed that the suspect has four prior criminal records and one record for a drug-related offence, according to reports by Harian Metro and Sinar Harian.

The case is being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for the use of criminal force to deter a public servant from performing their duties.

Authorities are also probing the case under Section 427 for mischief and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act for the possession of dangerous weapons in a public place without lawful authority.
