The festive season is here and it’s common for households to open their doors for friends & relatives to come over for food and a catch-up!

Just this afternoon (4 May), on his Twitter post, Prime Minister Dato Seri Ismail Sabri shared about the visit from the local badminton legend, Dato Lee Chong Wei to his house. Sabri posted a couple of images of him and Chong Wei’s family and wrote a short appreciation post for the iconic badminton player.

Sabri also revealed that Chong Wei & family visit his house every year during the Raya open house as they both have maintained a close relationship for years.

“Chong Wei have been close to me since I was the Minister of Youth & Sports”, Sabri said.

According to the website of the Malaysian Prime Minister’s office, Sabri was the Minister of Youth & Sports in 2008 for 1 year, before the position was taken over by Dato’ Sri Ahmad Shabery bin Cheek.

This means Chong Wei has been friends with our Prime Minister for about 14 years now.

Sabri later continued in his Twitter post by thanking Chong Wei for his enormous contributions to the country.

“Thank you Lee Chong Wei for bringing the name of our country to the international stage. I hope he will continue in upgrading the excellence of badminton in Malaysia.”

Last month, Chong Wei broke his silence about rumours of him leaving Malaysia to become a badminton coach in another country. He assured the people that as of now, he is only going to lepak in Malaysia and spend quality time with his family.
