We don’t know what’s going on inside the minds of others. Some are battling their inner demons, and sometimes, all it takes is a slight push for them to give up on life altogether.
A man who has had enough of his wife’s controlling attitude decided to jump off the ferry in Pulau Pinang, allegedly to commit suicide. Apart from his marital problems, he was said to have financial difficulties as well.
As reported by Harian Metro, the father of two managed to be rescued after the captain of the ferry informed to coast guard about the incident.
The Seberang Perai Utara district police chief, ACP Noorzainy explained that the man who initially took a bus from Kuala Lumpur to Butterworth showed some signs of premeditation. He said,
“He then took the ferry to Georgetown but did not go down and stayed inside the same ferry heading back to Butterworth. When the ferry reached the waters of Butterworth, the man decided to jump off.”
The man is now in a stable condition and has been referred to a psychologist for further treatment. The case is currently being investigated under Section 309 of the Penal Code, a law considered to be archaic as Malaysia remains the last few countries in the world to criminalise suicide.
