Just a couple of weeks ago, we spotted a man who resembles Jang Deok-Su (Player 101) from the popular Squid Game series hanging out in Sunway Pyramid.
Aside from that, the South Korean show had also ignited the hidden creativities that some Malaysians have. What if we tell you, there is actually a local version of Squid Game awaiting its release?
That’s right. Just when we thought the hype of the show is waning down, Taruh, a local short film that is heavily inspired by Squid Game will be released on Cineplus Asia’s Facebook page on 28 October (Thursday) at 8pm.
Aside from the source of inspiration, what catches the eye is its cast members, which include former Minister of Education and Simpang Renggam MP, Dr Maszlee Bin Malik, who plays the role of Player 237. He can be seen standing in the centre of the poster.
According to Cineplus Asia’s post on Facebook, this local tribute short film is fan-made which also includes supermodel and actress Intan Ladyana as well as Cineplus show host, Aqinna B. It is also stated that aside from Squid Game itself, the inspiration also came from some of the netizens’ questions on what if the game actually exists in our country.
Thus, this local short film is not just a tribute, but also an answer to the questions.
Dr Maszlee also took to his Facebook account and shared the poster of this short film while awaiting its release. You can view the trailer for Taruh here.
We wonder if we will get to see the Malaysian version of Front Man in Taruh.
