This is truly tragic!

While hanging the laundry, an elderly man fell to his death and was then followed by his wife when she had a heart attack upon seeing the body of her husband, reported Lianhe Zaobao.

Mr. Huang Xingwei and Ms. Xue Pingxin were identified as the two unfortunate couple, who lived together alongside their second daughter in Toa Payoh East.

The incident happened on Wednesday (20th August) when the 84-year-old man was out hanging his clothes on a bamboo pole at around 10.17am.

One of the neighbours of the victim recalled that at first, she heard loud thuds and assumed that bamboo poles had fallen down from the floor above.

However, truth is crueller than that, as she saw Huang’s body lying on the floor of the flat. Petrified, she immediately told her grandson to call the police.

The incident was also witnessed by another neighbour, Mira, who saw Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) carrying an unconscious lady out of a house on the 10th floor. The woman then received cardiopulmonary resuscitation from the medical staff before being brought to the hospital. Unfortunately, she passed away on that very same day.

This scene made Mira think that the elderly woman had a heart attack upon seeing the fall of her husband.

The report made on the deaths of the unfortunate couple had been affirmed by the police, and they are now investigating the unnatural death of the 84-year-old man.

This is truly unfortunate. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family members and friends of the deceased.
