This is outrageous! Recently, a driver who was driving a Maserati ran over a traffic police officer on Friday night (November 17) and subsequently escaped from the scene. Wow!

According to Straits Times, 33-year-old Lee Cheng Yan was driving on Bedok Reservoir Road at about 9.20pm when a 26-year-old traffic police officer stopped him for an enforcement check. However, when the officer was walking over to his car, Lee allegedly reversed and then accelerated forward, hitting the man.

The officer was left clinging to his white Maserati’s door and the car dragged him for about 100 metres before he fell onto the road. The officer suffered heavy injuries and was taken to Changi General Hospital for treatment. While Lee was escaping the scene, a motorist on a motorbike saw the incident and gave chase.

Motorcycle workshop owner Yan Junfeng posted a Facebook video of the chase, which went viral. He said, “I saw that the driver was refusing to cooperate with the traffic police, and driving recklessly between lanes. As an ex-Singapore Civil Defence Force officer, my natural reaction was to provide assistance.”

“I contacted the police immediately and told them I was following the car – they told me to be safe and stay on the phone to update them on the driver’s current location.”

Lee’s car was found abandoned later at Cedar Avenue and police went on a manhunt for him. Luckily, they tracked him down at a HDB unit in Geylang Bahru Road later. The police announced at around 4.21am on Saturday morning that Lee was arrested and would be charged in court for causing grievous hurt.

Apparently, this is not Lee’s first brush with the law as previously, he had been caught several times for traffic-related offenses too. His white Maserati was impounded for three months in July where he committed several traffic violations and illegal modifications. His car was apparently used to race in Malaysia as well.

NST reported that from 2012 to 2015, Lee was caught eight times for modifying his car’s exhaust system. During that period, he would rent an approved exhaust system to evade inspection tests. In 2016, Lee was also involved in a traffic accident along Orchard Road, which led to a driving ban being imposed on him for nine months and a fine.

Now, he will be back in court on November 24.
