A wedding ceremony is supposed to be a happy event where the union of two souls are finally joined together as one. However, this event usually involves long, careful planning and quite a huge sum of money especially if you are going for a grand one!

According to Moretify, recently, this guy, Sam shared his wedding planning woes with his fiancée on Facebook and asked for netizens’ advice.

He writes,

“Next month I’m going to officially ask for her hand in marriage from her parents. We agreed that our wedding would be a simple one but now she wants everything to be the best.

“She wants a videographer, the best makeup artist, a honeymoon vacation and everything to be the absolute best. Other requests include a dowry of RM10,000, ten banquet tables, payment for all lodgings for outstation relatives and a videographer for the actual wedding day. I only want a photographer but she insists on having a videographer.”

Should I cancel the wedding? It is already over my budget and I can’t afford it. Or should I continue with the wedding and just swipe my credit card? I’ve already discussed with her and she is not willing to share the expenses with me. What should I do? Are these normal requests nowadays for girls?”

He adds that for makeup artist, she chose the most expensive one that cost RM1,288 instead of a cheaper one that cost RM900.

Tha majority of the commenters said that he should discuss his financial issues with his fiancée as the wedding only marks the beginning of the journey and they still had a long way to go. Sam says, “I have tried doing so, but every time we talk about money, it ends in an argument.”

Sam adds, “If I were to marry her like that, I would become bankrupt immediately.”

Many commenters said that, “What’s the point of getting married and becoming heavily in debt? She doesn’t know how to think on your behalf. Maybe you shouldn’t marry her at all.”

They also said that nowadays many people like to do that and have a grand wedding to show off, but after that they will be poor and may even end up divorced in the end.

But there were also supporters who believed that Sam’s fiancée was right and didn’t go overboard with her requests. They said, “Marriage is supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime affair, so it is natural that she wants to make it as memorable as possible. These are actually normal requests.”

What about you? Do you think these are actually reasonable requests?
