In the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15), a number of prime ministerial candidates have made promises on what they would deliver if they get enough votes to lead Malaysia for the next 5 years.

Pakatan Harapan’s PM candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has promised that if he were to be elected as, he would cut the pay and allowance of ministers and the PM himself as well as reduce the size of the Cabinet in whole.

It appears that BN is leaning the same way as caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob recently announced that a leaner Cabinet, stable politics, and a sound economy with reduced bureaucracy are among some of his promises if he were to become PM once again.

He acknowledged that many felt that the last Cabinet was large.

“I must admit that. For sure, I intend to lead a lean Cabinet, comprising individuals with different backgrounds, experience and expertise, and not just politicians.”

“I want to create an administrative team that is strong, capable, visionary, knowledgeable and creative,” he said in an interview aired over major television stations last night (November 15).

When Ismail Sabri took over as PM in August last year, there were 32 Cabinet members (including the prime minister) along with 38 deputy ministers.

What do you think of this? Should promises of a smaller Cabinet be praised?
