So you’ve read through what you need to do before arriving at your voting location, now you’re queueing, and then you realise that you have no idea what to do once it’s your turn.

Do not fear because the Election Commission of Malaysia just released a step-by-step guide on what to do when it is your turn to cast your votes this November 19, 2022.

Follow the below steps carefully and you’ll be just fine!

1. Enter the room when the policeman supervising the entrance allows you to

2. Hand your MyKad/identification document and the “Slip Semakan” (which can be printed from the MySPR Semak website) to the Kerani Pengundian Pertama

Show both of your hands for inspection.

3.  The Kerani Pengundian Pertama will pass your MyKad/identification document to the Kerani Pengundian Kedua for verification

Make sure your name shouted by the Kerani Pengundian Pertama is ACCURATE.

4. Move to the Kerani Pengundian Kedua

Dip your left index finger into the bottle of Election Ink when asked.

Note that the Kerani Pengundian Pertama will tick off your name from the Register of Election Voters once you dip your finger into said ink.

5. Collect your ballot paper(s) from the Kerani Pengundian Ketiga

You will receive 2 ballot papers, one to vote for your member of parliament (MP) and another to vote for your state assemblyman (ADUN) if you are voting in Perlis, Perak, and Pahang.

Make sure to not stain the ballot paper(s) with the Election Ink as a smeared ballot paper will count as a Spoilt Vote.

6. Move to the Ketua Tempat Mengundi’s table and hand over your mobile phone

This is a new safeguard introduced to prevent vote buying by political parties.

7. Once you’ve dropped off your phone, move to the assigned marking station

Mark “X” in the empty space next to your chosen candidate’s name and symbol on the ballot paper.

Mobile phones are banned

Once again, a reminder to everyone that you’re required to drop off your mobile phone at the table where the Ketua Tempat Mengundi is seated before proceeding to mark your ballot paper(s).

You may collect your mobile phone after dropping your ballot paper(s) into the ballot box(es).

Now, reread the steps, understand them, memorise them, and you’re good to go!
