OKU Suspected of Trying to Kidnap 7yo Child in Johor Gets Stopped by Members of the Public, Was on Drugs

It’s a scary world out there, especially for children as there seems to always be predators lurking in the shadows waiting to take advantage of them.

Recently, a video which showed a man attempting to kidnap a schoolchild before getting stopped by members of the public went viral on TikTok.

The video which was shared by Utusan, showed the man hastily dragging the 7-year-old school boy on the side of a busy road at Taman Scientex, Pasir Gudang, Johor.

In the incident which happened at around 11:30am yesterday (11 May), the schoolboy was said to be walking alone after religious studies class towards his house.

Johor police chief, Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said that the victim was approached by the 20-year-old suspect who offered to give him a ride home on his motorcycle.

“The victim refused to ride the motorcycle and the suspect then tried to take him away, however, the incident was witnessed seen by several members of the public passing through the area.”

“The suspect was acting aggressively before the public helped to detain the suspect to be handed over to the police,” he said in a statement.

Kamarul Zaman said the suspect was also found to be positive for methamphetamine and was wanted by the police in connection with a drug abuse case.

He said that the case was being investigated under Section 363 of the Penal Code.

Netizens praised the members of public who stepped in

The video has gone viral on TikTok and has garnered over 5 million views. Netizens took to the comments section to praise the quick actions of the pedestrians in the video.

In the video, a man can be heard asking the suspect on whose child he was dragging and to let go of the child. When the suspect continued to drag the child away, several members of the public ran towards him to confront him.

“Thank you to the members of the public who were aware. We must continue to act fast whenever we see similar instances,” commented one user.

“I pray that the man who started scolding the suspect is blessed with opportunities… because of his voice, other people were alerted,” said another netizen.
