“You’re the rude one if you think the name on the whiskey bottle has something to do with the name of the prophet’s daughter, Fatimah al-Zahra.”

These were the words by Datuk Dr Syed Ali Tawfik Al-Attas, the former director from Institut Kefahaman Islam Malaysia (IKIM) following the continuous disputes over the local whiskey brand known as TIMAH.

He said that using the name “Timah” as the short form of the prophet’s daughter name is ruder than the parties that use the name for branding purposes. This is because no one has referred to the prophet Muhammad as simply “Mat”, nor his daughter simply as “Timah”. He also emphasized that Fatimah is not even a Malay name, as some people suggested. In fact, it’s Arabic, reported Astro Awani.

In the meantime, Dr Syed also highlighted how some people are too arrogant and tend to not open up to further opinions when they see themselves as the know-it-alls.

“The company had explained their stand, and you refused to accept. That shows your arrogance and corrupted mind” he explained, while also stressing no one had ever thought of associating the brand with the prophet’s daughter name.

In a video where he spoke about knowledge corruption, he used the TIMAH branding as an example and also made a remark that no promotions nor advertising are required as the politicians especially, had done them the favor.

In another video of his, Dr Syed also explained that our country is in need of leaders that are truly capable of resolving the issues at hand. The arrogance of some of the current leaders and politicians have made it near impossible for them to accept viewpoints from others, which subsequently made them lose their dignity and self-worth.

“We need to overcome the issues of corrupted knowledge. They have time for whiskey issues, but not corruptions.”
