A secondary school teacher tested positive for Covid-19 and is now being treated at an isolation centre in Keningau, Sabah. However, he was worried about his students who would soon be taking their SPM examinations and decided to continue his lessons online while at the isolation centre.

34-year-old Naimmi Yusof who teaches at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bingkor, Keningau is from Kedah. He is currently a Sejarah teacher in the classes that will be taking their SPM examinations.

According to Sin Chew Daily, Naimmi tested positive for Covid-19 on 26 January and was classified as asymptomatic. He was then sent to an isolation centre at the Keningau Stadium.

Although the school approved his sick leaves so that he could rest with ease, he still worried about his students.

“Their exams will start on the 22nd of this month. I cannot let their studies be affected because of my isolation,” he said.

He added that despite having limited teaching materials, he is a responsible teacher and as long as his physical condition permits, he can still teach from the isolation centre.

After consulting with a doctor at the centre, Naimmi started recording his Sejarah lessons on his mobile phone and uploaded them on his YouTube account so that his students can watch them.

“The doctor said that my health is good and the virus in my body has weakened,” he said.

“The doctor said that I can do what I like. I like teaching, so I want to teach online.”

Naimmi said he believes that as long as he can do what he likes, his body will naturally be full of energy and will defeat the virus.

He further narrated that his students knew he was in quarantine and that he couldn’t return to school for face-to-face classes. He said they were very sad and kept praying for him, which gave him great comfort.

He added that he will continue teaching online until he is allowed to leave the isolation centre.

What a dedicated teacher! Thank you, Naimmi, for your sacrifice and hard work that you’ve put in for your beloved students!
