Ever felt like sending some sexy photos or videos to your partner? Benjamin Yeo Bing Yuan’s ex-girlfriend learned the hard way that you definitely shouldn’t do that.

After the two broke it off, the 25-year-old decided to blackmail his 23-year-old ex-girlfriend with the videos of her engaging in sexual acts she sent to him when they were still together.

He also possessed videos of him and the victim having sex before they broke up back in 2015 and lost contact.

However, he managed to locate her Facebook profile and got her phone number after messaging her.

He demanded S$4,000 (RM12,531) from her to delete those videos as he ran into financial difficulties. She had no choice but to agree to his demands but needed some time to raise the amount.

From 4 May 2016 to 14 June 2016, he harassed her for the blackmail money and ask her to set a deadline as well as warning her not to “test” him. Yeo had run up a debt amounting to a few thousand dollars from betting on football. He took a bank loan in an attempt recoup his losses but he lost money again.

He cooked up a plan to use those videos to his advantage and asked the victim if he could sell those videos and stated that it could be sold for a good price. Terrified, the victim agreed to his demands and they struck a deal.

On 14 June 2016, he told her to transfer S$1,000 (RM3,133) to him by 10.00pm or he would sell the videos. At 5.00pm on the same day, he sent her one of the clips and said  “If you can’t help me, other guys will definitely help me”.

She begged him not to do so and requested that they meet up where she would hand him the money and personally witness him deleting the videos.

He refused and continued to threaten her by saying “(She) should know how viral this can be. Millions of people will get to see it.”

Desperate, the victim lodged a police report that evening and the police went over to Yeo’s home in Pasir Ris where 18 sexually explicit videos of the victim was found in his portable hard disk drive.

The judge sentenced Yeo to four months in jail after he admitted to threatening the victim with injury to her reputation. His sentence will start from 15 February 2017. For his crime, Yeo could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined for criminal intimidation.

Moral of the story? Think long and hard before pressing send on that oh-so-sexy photo or video that you want to send to your partner!
