Businesses and brands can now promote themselves and sell their products on Shopee.

The Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA) announced its collaboration with the online shopping platform, Shopee, today. This means that businesses in Malaysia, regardless of small or large, can now open an official account on Shopee.

This is certainly great news for many who are having a hard time maintaining their businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, they can work on one of the leading e-commerce platforms in South East Asia.

According to New Straits Times, The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between Shopee and MFA chairperson Datuk Dr Radzali Hassan on Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) was witnessed by Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP).

MFA chairperson Radzali said in his speech that shoppers can now enjoy better savings and deals, as they will be alerted to special discounts and promotions via Shopee whenever the brands or businesses promote their products online.

Ever since the beginning of the Movement Control Order (MCO), there is a prominent growth of online purchases.

“Through this collaboration, I hope it will reduce some of the burdens that these small businesses are facing now,” Minister of KPDNHEP Linggi told the reporters.

He understands that many businesses suffered during the COVID-19 outbreak, and hopes this initiative can lend a helping hand.

He also adds that the ministry will be refining the implementation of the programme and welcomes support and views from all industry players.

Shopee Malaysia’s Fast-moving Consumer Goods Head Tan Ming Kit, KPDNHEP deputy minister Datuk Rosol Wahid; Secretary-General Datuk Seri Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad and Deputy Secretary-General (Dometic Trade) Dr Alauddin Sidal were also there at the signing ceremony.

Tan said that an RM15 million Shopee Seller SubPackage was launched by Shopee to help businesses go online, “We concluded our first-ever Jom Cari Makan campaign to help over 400 F&B outlets by offering more than 1,000 meal vouchers at up to 50 per-cent off, during the recovery phase.” he added.

Shopee hopes that more local franchises will go onboard, and promises to assist them via in-app features that can help with marketing.

Besides, local brands can also expand their business network to other South East Asia countries.

Contactless payment through ShopeePay e-wallet will also be introduced, and users can make payment, both online and offline with it.

The partnership between MFA and Shopee is sensitive to Malaysia’s economy and country needs, as contactless transaction is obligatory to keep Malaysians safe during this pandemic.
