The Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) will probably get extended again if Malaysians continue to break the safety protocols set by the government in order to eradicate the Covid-19 virus from our shores.

Despite the fact that our government has agreed to allow the general public to exercise outdoors, they’ve also made it clear that these activities can only be conducted if certain standards of procedures are adhered to, such as social distancing and avoiding crowds.

The Penang Kini Facebook page took to their profile to showcase images of a crowded beach side park in Tanjung Tokong, Penang, as many people can be seen hanging around, exercising and enjoying themselves.

They wrote, “The location is the beach by Straits Quay, Tanjung Tokong. It’s a luxury housing area. Every evening, many people can be seen gathering to relax, to carry out recreational activities and to exercise. Is this allowed under the standards of procedures for the CMCO?”

“If such behaviour is seen in other locations, where people were to gather by the beach or any recreational area, it would be an offense. We request for the authorities to look into this,” they added.

Many took to the comment section to express their dissatisfaction as they feel that luxury areas seem to be lacking the policing that other areas in Malaysia may be experiencing.

This comment goes, “Covid-19 does not infect the rich.”

This comment says, “They are more willing to pay the RM1,000 fine. For them, RM1,000 is like 1 mussel. Increase the value of the fines for them.”

Leisure 7

This comment reads, “This is the area of those of have it all. Many expatriates live in places like this. Who dares to bother them?”

This comment goes, “This is a VVIP area, don’t bother them. They have cover. They even have insurance.”

We understand that exercising outdoors is now allowed, but the fact that there are so many people in that area just feels a little too crowded for comfort (or safety, at this point).

But we genuinely hope that the authorities look into this matter considering the number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia are slowly beginning to increase again.

What do you think about this? Let us know in the comment section.
