These days, most Malaysians are glued to their screens when it is time to hear an announcement by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. From the MCO extension to helpful incentives, these speeches basically cover all the information we need in order to survive the Covid-19 pandemic.

Other than the prime minister, there is another familiar face that often accompanies him in these speeches at the bottom right of the screen. She is Tan Lee Bee, who also appears regularly on Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) news broadcasts. To some, her presence on the screen might not be important and oftentimes made fun off because of her hand movements and her facial expressions, but her role is crucial in ensuring those with hearing impairments and disabilities understand the message being conveyed and other current developments.

As shared by the Malaysian Sign Language official Facebook page, Tan Lee Bee is one of the sign language interpreters who has served over 25 years at RTM. She started her career through Selamat Pagi Malaysia (SPM) in 1986. As reported by Harian Metro, although she is now 58 years old, she maintains a cheerful and active lifestyle while spreading positivity to others. In addition to being friendly and likeable, Tan Lee Bee is also fluent in Bahasa Malaysia because she grew up in a Malay community in her hometown in Segamat, Johor.

Thank you, Tan Lee Bee, for your awesome service and surely we will remember your contribution, especially while the country is working hard to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
