To all my tattooed comrades out there, make sure to cover up your ink when attending job interviews (especially if you really want the job)!

A recent study by YouGov Omnibus has revealed what Malaysians think about tattoos at the workplace. The survey conducted showcases results from 1,022 Malaysians regarding their views on the employability of inked Malaysians. We think we know where this is going…

The overall results confirm the general view that tattoos are an unwelcome sight at the office. Let’s break down the numbers:

General Stats:

  • 7% of Malaysians have a tattoo
  • 6 out of 10 (63%): Believe tattoos should be covered up in the workplace

YouGov Omnibus Asia-Pacific chief Jake Gammon told The Star that although tattoos are considerably common, they appear to be largely unwelcome in the workplace.

“Not only do tattooed people leave a bad impression on a significant proportion of Malaysians, they also affect employability.” he added.

That’s certainly a bummer for that 7%! Tattoos are becoming more common these days. However, especially in urban and suburban areas. Hopefully, society doesn’t discount them if they’re really the right people for the job.

Be right back, going to go buy a tub of foundation.
