For many students, principals in schools are often seen as scary figures. However, it seems like these students in China are having quality time with their school principal enjoying their dance routine!

According to the South China Morning Post, a 40-year-old school principal named Zhang Pengfei from Xi Guan Primary School, China has motivated his fellow students by picking up cool shuffle moves to help them remain fit and healthy. WOW!

Zhang elaborated that incorporating the shuffle dance is seen as more interesting and fun as opposed to the standard, government-mandated exercise programme. Also, modern dance routines can wrest children away from electronic devices, making them more active on a daily basis, as reported in RT.

As such, the principal has decided to abandon the government’s daily exercise programme and began incorporating a modern dance routine instead.

Video footage of the principal leading the dance workout along with his fellow primary school students and teachers began to circulate online, catching netizens’ attention. The video has gotten approximately 39 million views on Facebook four days after it was uploaded on 18th January. Check out the video below!

The dance workout is named Guibu, also known as ghost steps. It is a type of shuffle dance that involves modern jazzy steps, with heel-and-toe movements along with arm actions.

In China, it is common to witness students practising these dance moves in various schools, regardless of whether they are in primary, middle or high school, since 1951. The origins of such dance moves can be traced back to the 19th century in Germany.

Such dance routines are part of their schooling life and you can see them in most of the schools in China!

FYI, broadcast callisthenics is a type of Chinese workout initially based on exercises used by Japanese soldiers during World War II, with modifications “inspired” by routines used in the former Soviet Union.
Well, with that said, what do you think about these new dance moves incorporated by the Chinese school principal? Do you think Malaysian schools should do this too? Let us know in the comments section below!
