Do you recall the time when we played kutu in school? Well, it looks like we can’t play it anymore if we want to spare going to jail.

Berita Harian reported that kutu is actually a serious offence because one can get jailed for no more than 10 years and/or fined for no more than RM500,000 if found guilty of organising kutu groups or running a business that manages kutu groups. Yikes!

According to the Cyber Crime Alert Royal Malaysian Police Facebook page, the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Komersial, JSJK) reported several cases of missing kutu organisers who ran away with the investors’ money, so it’s important for people to know that these groups are illegal and dangerous.

They wrote,

“Under Section 3 of the Act (Prohibition) of the Kutu Fund 1971, it’s illegal to do business that organises kutu fund groups. Therefore, anyone who runs businesses that organise kutu fund groups and anyone who runs the group is violating the law.”

“If found guilty, one can be charged a minimum fine of no more than RM500,000 and/or a jail sentence of no more than 10 years.”

Not only that, the police also warned the public about getting involved with any kutu groups. This is because not only is it illegal to play kutu but it’s also risky as one can get cheated. Take note, guys!

Speaking of getting cheated, the police also said it’s important to lodge a complaint if the head of the kutu group (Ibu kutu) disappears because these cases will be transferred to the Companies Commission of Malaysia (Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia, SSM) for further investigations.

Prior to this, on 3 June 2018, a group of nine women in Segamat, Johor filed a complaint against a lady (Ibu kutu) in her 30s for running away with their investment money. The biggest investor, a housewife, claimed that she had invested from RM200 to RM4,500 to the lady.

So, do keep in mind to stay away from any sorts of kutu groups because meddling in these illegal activities will bring some serious trouble to us. Plus, if you really want to invest some money, why not try investing in actual shares or properties?
