Just today (June 19), Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC) officially launched the start of its Global Accelerator Programme (GAP) and Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng was in attendance. He gave a speech to motivate the hopeful entrepreneurs who were there today.

He encouraged them to be determined and resilient to achieve their dreams and said that the “Malaysian dream belongs to everyone who work hard.”

“There must be a determination, resilience and sacrifice in order to achieve your dreams. In the end, it all comes down to people and values. We need to shape a future that works for all of us by the people first and by empowering them,” Lim said, as quoted by The Sun Daily.

In addition, he also encouraged Malaysians to improve and said that it’s high time we beat Singapore by giving them some healthy economic competition. He asked Malaysians to adopt a “can do” attitude so that we can be better than them, based on a report by The StarMalaysia boleh, right?

“We must have the can do spirit. For example, why must we lose to Singapore every time? Beat them at their own game, you can do it. Penang has beaten them many times,” he explained.

“I’m not being anti-Singapore here but I’m just trying to motivate you that you can do it! After all if you look at Singapore, they use many of our people (talents),” Lim added. #Peace

Lim gave an example, saying that Singaporeans are really good in marketing. One way they did this was by laying bold claims about being the original place of birth for several delicacies even though we know for sure they’re from Malaysia they are commonly found in both Singapore and Malaysia. By clever marketing, a major part of the world believe that it actually does come from Singapore but Malaysians know better!

“Chicken rice is theirs?… if you’re not careful fried kuay teow will also be theirs (someday),” Lim said, as the audience burst into laughter.

You heard the man! It’s time to change that attitude and make our country proud!
