We already know that the Pakatan Harapan government ministers don’t hold more than one position in the office, right?

Applying that same concept to Government-Linked Companies (GLCs), our beloved prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad has announced that government officers aren’t allowed to hold more than five positions, reported NST.

This is a good directive because it opens opportunities for other people to occupy the positions.

Plus, Tun M advised that officers shouldn’t occupy “between two and three” positions in different GLCs. However, he is aware that sometimes, officers are required to hold more than three positions due to unavoidable reasons, so that’s why he increased the number of maximum positions to five.

“We will reduce to not more than five positions at a time. We do not even encourage officers to hold two to three more positions, but sometimes it is unavoidable,” Tun M said during a press conference after chairing a Special Cabinet Committee on Anti-Corruption meeting today (8 June 2018).

This directive was issued because Tun M discovered that there was an officer that held 68 positions in different types of GLCs before. Whoa, so many!

This practice is unacceptable and thus, initiated a reduction in the number of positions one government officer can occupy in GLCs at a time.

On the other hand, Tun M said it is compulsory for all ministers, deputies and political secretaries to declare their assets. After they have declared their assets, a report would be sent to the prime minister.

He was quoted as saying,

“The information received would be relayed to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. The prime minister cannot hide information on government members and administration officers.”

Prior to this, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah also mentioned that the PH ministers will definitely declare their assets and they are only waiting for finance minister Lim Guan Eng to announce the date for the declaration of assets.

With that said, we hope that all requirements and orders that the government passes down will work for the benefit of the country and the rakyat. Here’s to more positive changes in Malaysia!
