Food delivery riders may very well be one of the most hardworking people. But sometimes, they too, need a little help.

Kuan Chee Heng, aka Uncle Kentang, took to his Facebook page to share how a food delivery rider offered him a necklace and the couple’s wedding rings, in exchange for money to afford the costs of delivering his pregnant wife’s baby.

But, Uncle Kentang rejected the exchange and instead offered to help as long as the rider sends him pictures of his adorable baby went it arrives.

Uncle Kentang wrote, “I don’t want your wedding rings or necklace. I just want baby pictures. A food delivery rider offered his rings and gold chain to me as collateral.”

“A food delivery rider called me and offered his wedding necklace and rings as collateral because his wife was expected to deliver their baby early. This morning, she was sent to HUKM Cheras and he begged me for money and offered their wedding jewellery as collateral. He said when he receives his salary, he will pay me back.”

Uncle Kentang rejected the offer, sharing that his organisation would happily bear the costs.

“I told him, don’t you worry. Let your wife know that we, Anak Kentangs, will bear the maternity costs. I could not bring myself to take their wedding rings and gold chain. In Malaysia, when we can afford to help, we will help. The Prophet has instructed that we will not become poor if we donate, which I am confident of,”

“And I told him, send me baby pictures and take care of yourself well. Tell your wife to relax as we will bear the hospital costs. Long live Malaysia.”

We’re so glad that the rider and his wife will be able to enjoy the birth of their baby without the added intensity of medical costs.

Thank you, Uncle Kentang, for making their day.
