Teachers are some of the most important people who help shape our formative years, so it’s great to see them being celebrated!
According to The Sun, one of our very own has been shortlisted for the prestigious Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize (GTP) 2019 worth USD$1 million (approx. RM4.18 million)!
Muhamad Khairul Anuar Hussin from SMK Taman Universiti 2, Johor Bahru is one of the 50 teachers from around the world to be shortlisted for this prize. He is also the only Malaysian to be picked out of over 10,000 applications from 179 countries. Judging by his achievements, he definitely deserves to be shortlisted!
Muhamad Khairul is a special needs teacher who has gone above and beyond for his students by helping them prepare for the real world. He decided to develop an inclusive education model to help special needs students to socialise more with their other classmates so they can eventually enter mainstream schools.
According to the Malay Mail, this education model has been recognised by the Ministry of Education and it has already been incorporated in its special educational needs teaching policy and guidance.
Khairul Annuar even helped prepare teachers to use this inclusive education model during a Special Education Forum.
In total, 10 finalists will be chosen from the 50 shortlisted candidates by February 2019, and the grand prize winner will be announced during a ceremony at the Global Education and Skills Forum in Dubai on 24th March 2019.
