52-year-old former Olympic boxing gold medalist from Thailand has been sentenced to 3 years in prison on charges including attempted rape of a teenager just over a year ago.

Somluck Kamsing plans to appeal his conviction after the Khon Kaen provincial court granted him bail of 300,000 baht (approximately RM39,243.10) following a ruling related to an incident in December 2023 involving a 17-year-old girl he met at a night spot.

They found bruises near her genital area

Bangkok Post reported that the incident took place on the night of December 9, 2023, and Somluck reported to the police for questioning on December 15.

The court said it believed the woman’s claims, pointing to bruises found on her chest and near her genital area as evidence.

The teenager, earlier told the court that Somluck attempted to rape her but allegedly could not get an erection, so he rubbed himself roughly against her.

The court also ordered Somluck to pay 120,000 baht (approximately RM15,697.24) in compensation to the teenager and 50,000 baht (approximately RM6,540.52) to her family.

He claimed he stopped when he learned her real age

At the time, he told reporters that he didn’t know the teenager’s age until he asked her later in the hotel room, at which point he claimed to have stopped making advances.

The court dismissed his claim that the teenager had given her consent and also stated that just because the girl followed him to a hotel, it didn’t imply she was willing to have sex with him.

They added that the defence couldn’t prove any intent to commit prostitution, especially since no money was ever asked for.
