5 years ago, during the pandemic, a Sabahan student, Veveonah Mosibin, went viral for spending 24 hours IN A TREE to gain an internet connection to conduct her online examination.
Now, it has been revealed that Veveonah is a future doctor!
According to a report by the New Straits Times, she completed her marine science degree from the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) with a 3.46 GPA and has already started her medical degree at Management and Science University (MSU) in Shah Alam.
However, she had to miss her convocation for her marine science degree, a field she had lost interest in due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s e-learning landscape.
“I was sponsored to fly back to Sabah for Christmas, but buying another flight ticket for the graduation is super expensive, especially in December,”
“It’s a long story, but an unstable mental state and depression can lead to poor choices that don’t align with one’s true abilities and passions. My initial excitement and passion for marine science were temporary. I began to lose interest during the pandemic, as we had to learn everything online. Marine science requires more hands-on, physical learning,” she said.
She had already decided to switch to medicine back in 2021 but chose to complete her marine science degree first as she had a scholarship contract.
The 23-year-old is currently in the process of applying for a scholarship after starting her 5-year medical course in October.
“Here, I have friends from different backgrounds. They are really nice and kind. They help me a lot in adapting to life at MSU. Being surrounded by intelligent and hardworking people motivates me even more.”
