As cannabis has been legalised in various neighbouring countries, it appears that cannabis infused products are on the increase.
It was recently reported that Sepang police have confiscated a parcel believed to contain a tube of toothpaste infused with cannabis leaf extract addressed to Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
According to a statement by PDRM, the parcel was confiscated at a courier hub on Pulau Meranti on Friday (March 10).
Sepang district police chief ACP Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said the raid was carried out following information from a report lodged by an officer at a government office who received a phone call informing them about the parcel.
âBased on the information, it is suspected that the parcel contains a prohibited item,â he said, adding that the government office also received a parcel containing cannabis leaves last week.
He added that the police have since gone to the courier hub and confiscated a brown box containing the tube of toothpaste with a cannabis leaf logo and the words âHappy Greenâ written on it.
He said a check revealed that the item was purchased by the sender with an address in Indonesia through an online platform.
The case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 by the Putrajaya policeâs narcotics division.
Section 6 deals with the restriction on the possession of raw opium, coca leaves, poppy-straw, and cannabis.
âInvestigation found that the seized item had no connection with the addressees. Further investigation continues”, he explained.
