Parents in Vietnam Are Printing QR Codes on Kids’ Hair Clips & Badges to Make Receiving Ang Pow Easier

As children, the Lunar New Year is never complete without the ang pows.

Traditionally, ang pows are given as a sign of blessing and come in little red packets. It was always fun to guess how much the packet contained when we were younger.

But as time passes, things change and it seems that even the way to give and receive red packets has changed now.

According to VN Express, some parents in Vietnam are now printing QR codes on their children’s hair clips, badges and even phone cases to make the process of giving red packets easier and also reduce waste.

It is said that this trend started in China and was introduced to Vietnam in 2023 but it exploded in 2024.

One of the sellers of such merchandise, Trang Nhung says that she has received orders for these little QR trinkets since the beginning of the year.

The amount of orders she received was so much that she had to put a stop to it as she was scared that she would not be able to complete them on time.

“Many customers begged but we did not dare to accept.”
