We have some questions about the diversity of this panel.
“Mansplaining” refers to the explanation of something by a man, typically to a woman, in a manner regarded as condescending or patronising. While women often report facing this in the workplace, there’s always help that is made available by ministries aimed to help overcome issues of gender inequality. Unfortunately, it seems as though the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) seems to have a different focus in mind.
The Ministry posted a webinar invitation on their Instagram page (which has since been removed). The webinar was titled Karnival Kerjaya Untuk Wanita (Career Carnival For Women) set to happen on 30 July. Now, what enraged Malaysians is that for a career carnival for women, all three panellists consisted of men!
The panellists consisted of :
- Nik Akmal Arif (Head of Career Cube)
- Rudy Ludinata (Certified image consultant)
- Coach Bert Fadly Halim (Smartphone Visual Content Consultant)
Batu Kawan MP, Kasthuri Patto, pointed this on her Twitter and called out the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Rina Harun.
Whats this @RinaMohdHarun?
Karnival Kerjaya Utk Wanita bt not a single female as panelist?
Combination of ??? or ????
Many experiencd, talented WOMEN in the market.
Ask @PWDC_Penang & our Women In Economy how it's done.
This is a let down by ur Ministry.

“Karnival Kerjaya untuk Wanita but not a single female as a panellist? There are many experienced, talented WOMEN in the market. This is a letdown by your Ministry. Buck up!”
While no offence is intended against the current panellists, Malaysians were aghast that the ministry couldn’t find ONE prominent woman for their webinar. WORLD OF BUZZ has reached out to the Ministry and have yet to receive a statement from them.
“Nothing new. Women football is also managed by men even though they could at least include 40% of women in their management.”
“Why are men so eager to give a talk about women? Don’t they understand that these men don’t understand issues pertaining to women?”
To all the women in the workplace, what examples of subtle sexism have you faced? Let us know in the comments section!
