Two young men learned an expensive lesson after spending thousands of ringgit on extreme motorcycle modifications, only to have their bikes seized during an enforcement operation in Jalan Pengkalan Rama, Melaka.
During a routine operation on Sunday (12 April), nearly 20 motorcyclists were spotted attempting to flee upon noticing a roadblock set up by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

The group was reportedly heading towards Klebang before making a U-turn in an effort to evade inspection. This risky decision led to an accident when one rider lost control of his motorcycle and fell 50 metres from the checkpoint.
No valid road tax, insurance, or brakes
Further inspection revealed alarming safety violations. The motorcycle involved in the crash did not even have a rear brake, posing a serious danger to both the rider and other road users. Investigations also confirmed that the bike lacked a valid road tax and had no insurance coverage.
In the same operation, another motorcycle was seized due to multiple severe technical violations. Among the extreme modifications detected were:
- Lowered front forks and loud aftermarket exhausts
- The absence of essential components, including mudguards, chain covers, signal lights, and brakes
- Undersized tyres (commonly known as “bicycle tyres”)
- Failure to display proper registration numbers at the front and rear

JPJ intensifies enforcement for road safety
During the inspection, JPJ issued a total of 21 summonses for offences including expired road tax, lack of insurance, expired driving licences, and various technical non-compliance issues.
In a statement on Facebook, JPJ reminded the public that while modifying vehicles may seem exciting, safety and legality must never be compromised.
The department reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying enforcement efforts to curb dangerous and illegal modifications, ensuring safer roads for all.
