All you hip-hop fans in KL, this one’s for you. If you’ve been on the lookout for a hip-hop concert that actually feels worth the hype, this might be it.
For the first time ever, J.I.D is coming to Vox Live KL on 28 May with his God Does Like World Tours!
The wait is finally over, guys. J.I.D is making his way down to Malaysia, and trust us, this is one of those shows you’ll want to be in the room for. Keep reading, you’re gonna want the full picture on this.
So, who is J.I.D, really?

If you’ve been a hip-hop fan over the past few years, you’ll know that J.I.D (short for Destin Choice Route) isn’t just another name in the mix; he’s one of the most technically gifted artists in the game right now. Signed under J. Cole’s Dreamville label, he first started turning heads back in 2017 with his debut album The Never Story.
What pulled people in? His rapid-fire flow, clever wordplay, and storytelling ability through rap songs. You’ve got songs like 151 Rum where he just goes off, fast, sharp, almost hard to keep up with, and then tracks like Workin Out show a softer, more reflective side.
That contrast is kind of his thing; he can go bar-for-bar with the best of them, but still make it feel personal. Then came Enemy with Imagine Dragons, the track that really pushed him into the mainstream (and probably onto your playlist too).
The new era: God Does Like Ugly

Following the release of his latest album God Does Like Ugly in 2025, J.I.D is stepping into an even bigger spotlight. The project has already earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album, plus another nod for Best Melodic Rap Performance with Wholeheartedly.
But beyond the accolades, this album feels more personal. The title itself, God Does Like Ugly, actually comes from something J.I.D’s late grandmother once said, “I guess God does like ugly”, leaning into the idea that the messy, imperfect parts of life still matter. It’s less about being polished and more about embracing the complicated parts of life.
It’s sharp, lyrical, and the kind of album that hits whether you’re just playing it in the background or really listening.
What to expect at the KL show?

If you’ve never caught J.I.D live before, just know this: he shows up. It’s all energy from start to finish: sharp delivery and a crowd that’s just as locked in as he is.
The God Does Like World Tours started back in October 2025, and since then, J.I.D has been moving city to city, across North America and Europe, with shows that have reportedly sold out and left crowds wanting more. In fact, this tour is his biggest headlining tour to date, with nearly 70 shows across four continents, including North America, Europe, and Australia.
Now, he’s taking things up another level by finally bringing it over to Asia, and for fans here who’ve been waiting for this moment, it’s honestly a big one. Expect the big favourites like 151 Rum and Surround Sound, mixed in with newer cuts from the God Does Like Ugly album. And with this being his first time performing in Kuala Lumpur, it’ll be one of those nights you’ll probably remember for a while.
